BLESSED, NOT LUCKY

Very often, we attribute our successes and good fortunes to mere luck. We say, “I was just lucky!” or “Wow, that was a lucky break!” But the scripture teaches us that our successes are not accidents of fate because “every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change (James1:17)

The Apostle James calls out specific gifts in his letter in this very first chapter: wisdom (1:5), the crown of life given to those who endure trials (1:12), and the Word of Truth—the Gospel (1:18). These are not fleeting or random; they are intentional blessings from our Heavenly Father, more valuable than any material wealth we may chase after.

And think about the simple joys—seeing the lush greenery of spring, hearing the melody of nature, smelling the fresh flowers, feeling the vastness of the blue sky, running along paths shaded by leafy branches. Aren’t these daily blessings these constant reminders of God’s love and provision?

So, I encourage you, my friends, to start seeing your life through the lens of God’s blessings. When you wake up each morning, instead of hoping for good luck, recognize the blessings. Acknowledge that good health, that opportunity to go to work, and the family and friends you have are God’s hands over your life.

And with a heart full of joy and love, let’s say we are blessed, not lucky or fortunate. Let’s change our language and our mindset. Because when you recognize your blessings, you live with gratitude and open your heart to even more of God’s work in your life.
