EMBRACE YOUR CROSS

By Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan

Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Discovery of the Holy Cross. Back in the fourth century, Queen St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, journeyed to Jerusalem and uncovered the very cross on which our Lord was crucified. As we reflect on her journey, I believe God is calling us to make a discovery of our own. He’s calling us not to find a physical cross but to uncover the cross, He has uniquely designed for each one of us—the cross that reflects His purpose for our lives.

Lord Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Sometimes, we think of the cross as something heavy, something painful. But friends, when we give up our own way and embrace the cross that God has for us, it’s not just a burden—it’s a blessing. It is where you find purpose in your pain, hope in your hardship, and strength in your struggles.

The cross is a path to becoming all that God has designed you to be. It is your calling. It’s the place where your gifts and talents meet the world’s needs, where your struggles are transformed into blessings, and where God’s strength shines through your weaknesses.

Like St. Helena, who went on a long journey to find the cross, sometimes we have to go on a journey of faith to find ours. We might have to dig deep, uncover layers, and remove things that are blocking it from sight. Maybe it’s fear, maybe it’s doubt, or maybe it’s feeling like we’re not worthy. But God says, “Child, I’ve given you all you need to fulfill this purpose. It’s time to discover the cross I have for you.”

So today, let’s ask ourselves: What is the cross God is calling me to carry? Is it a calling to serve others, a mission to share His love, or a season to persevere through a personal challenge? Whatever it is, know that God is with you. His Spirit is empowering you. His grace is sufficient. And when we choose to walk this path, carrying our cross, with faith and courage, we find resurrection life on the other side.
