THE POTTER AND THE CLAY

By Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan

The Bible frequently uses the beautiful imagery of the potter and the clay. It serves as a powerful reminder of our lives in God’s hands. In the book of Genesis, we read: “The Lord God created man from the dust of the earth” (Genesis 2:7). The first man, Adam, was formed by God from the clay found on the ground. Then God breathed life into him, and he became a living being.

Just as a potter molds a lump of clay, God shapes our lives. The prophet Isaiah reminds us, “Lord, you are our Father. We are clay, and you are our maker. We are all the work of your hands.” (Isaiah 64:8). God is our Master Potter. He molds and shapes us with His skilled hands, creating us to be “vessels of honor, sanctified and fit for the Lord, prepared for every good work.” (2 Timothy 2:19)

Every circumstance we go through, every high and low, is like the potter’s touch on the clay. Sometimes, God applies pressure to shape us. Other times, He eases His grip to smooth us out. Just like a potter knows exactly what the clay needs, God knows precisely what we need to become who He created us to be.

When you’re going through tough times, don’t be discouraged. God is at work, molding you, shaping you, and preparing you for His purpose. Remember, you are His masterpiece, ”created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we may walk in them” ( Ephesians 2:10). You are not just an ordinary piece of clay. You are crafted by the hands of the Almighty, and He has a beautiful purpose for your life.

So, let’s embrace God’s work in our lives. Let’s submit to His power and providence, allowing Him to shape us into vessels of honor, sanctified and fit for the Master’s use. Be patient. Trust the process. God, the Master Potter, knows exactly what He’s doing. Let Him complete His work in you. You are His masterpiece, and He has a beautiful purpose for your life.
