THE SECRET OF THE UNSHAKABLE JOY

By Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan

We don’t have to look far to see that we’re living in challenging times. The headlines are filled with conflict and uncertainty. People are anxious, weary, and burdened by the pressures of life. Divisions run deeper, patience grows thinner, and hope can feel distant. Yet even in the middle of it all, there is a joy available to us—a joy this world didn’t give, and this world cannot take away.

In the third century, when persecution raged against Christians and faith was put to the ultimate test, a man facing his own death wrote to a friend:

“It’s a bad world, an incredibly bad world. But I have discovered in the midst of it a quiet and holy people who have learned a great secret. They have found a joy that is a thousand times better than any pleasure of our sinful life. They are despised and persecuted, but they care not. They are masters of their souls. They have overcome the world. These people are the Christians … and I am one of them.”

What a powerful testimony! In a time of darkness, fear, and hostility, this man found the secret of joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances, but on Christ Himself. When you know who you are in Christ, you become unshakable. The storms may come, but they can’t sink you. The voices of fear may rise, but they can’t silence your faith.

That’s why the apostle John could write with confidence, “Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). Faith anchors us when everything else is shifting. It reminds us that our true identity is not defined by what we face, but by Who lives in us.

So when life feels heavy, when the world seems uncertain, remember the secret those early believers carried in their hearts. Joy is not found by escaping the world, but by overcoming it through faith. You may not be able to change what’s happening around you, but you can choose what happens within you.

Friends, the world may say it’s a bad and broken place, but we know a greater truth. Christ has overcome the world. And because He lives in us, we too can live with unshakable joy and fearless faith.
