VESSEL OF LIGHT

By Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan

Have you ever noticed how light always needs something to live in? A candle needs wax, a flame needs a wick, a bulb needs a filament. Light never exists on its own—it always chooses a home. Without a vessel, the light cannot shine.

In ancient times, people used simple clay lamps. The beauty of the lamp didn’t matter. Whether it was gold or clay, what mattered was that it was willing to hold the oil. And that’s how God looks at us. He’s not asking for perfection. He’s not asking for polished gold. He’s looking for hearts willing to be filled with His presence.

The Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:7, “We have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.” He reminds us that we are fragile, simple, sometimes even cracked — but within us, we carry something priceless: the light of Christ. The power is not in the jar; it’s in what the jar holds.

But here’s the key: the vessel determines how the light shines. If a lamp is dusty, the flame still burns, but the light grows dim. Sometimes our hearts get cluttered — resentment, pride, fear, worry. These things act like dust on the glass, clouding the brightness of God’s light in us.

That’s why, every day, we need to pray, “Lord, cleanse me. Wash my heart. Make me a pure vessel for Your light.” When your heart is clean, your light shines clearer. When your soul is at peace, your presence brightens every room you walk into.

You may not even realize how powerful your light is. One small candle can chase away the darkness of a whole room. One act of kindness can change the atmosphere in someone’s life. One prayer whispered in faith can bring hope to a weary heart.

When you smile at someone who’s hurting, that’s the light shining through. When you forgive someone who wronged you, that’s the light shining through. When you choose faith over fear, hope over despair, and love over hate, you are letting God’s light glow in a dark world.

So, keep your vessel clean. Keep your spirit open. Keep your flame burning. You may think your life is small, but God can use one little light to guide many people home.
