ARMENIAN MARTYRS' DAY OBSERVED
IN SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN

On the evening of April 24, Wisconsin Armenians gathered at the state’s oldest Armenian church, Holy Resurrection, to observe the solemn rites of Martyrs Day.

Conducting the ceremony were Rev. Fr. Sahag Kashian (Holy Resurrection), Rev. Fr. Nareg Keutelain (St. John the Baptist, Greenfield), Rev. Fr. Avedis Kalayjian (St. Mesrob, Racine),Rev. Fr, Daron Stepanian, (St Hagop, Racine) and Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian, retired priest, along with deacons  and choir members from St. John and St. Hagop (Racine).

Fr. Avedis delivered a thoughtful message on the role of the Armenian Church through history, the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Genocide and the need to transform the memory of victimhood into the attitude of victory.

Afterward, participants reassembled a few blocks from the church at Muskie’s Gourmet House, an Armenian-owned restaurant, for mezze and fellowship.
