POON PAREGENTAN 2024 OBSERVED AT ST. JOHN’S

Sunday, February 11, 2024

Milwaukee, WI– On Sunday, February 11, 2024, the Armenian Church observed the Eve of the Great Lent or Poon Paregentan. Literally translated a day of good living and fun. This marks the last day of life’s indulgences for the Armenian Christian before starting a strict observance of 40 days of fasting, penance and reconciliation: refraining from worldly pleasures and reflecting on the true meaning of their life.

St. John Armenian Church of Milwaukee, WI, in observance of the Great Lent, held a Poon Paregentan festivity after today’s divine liturgy. The fun included a luncheon shared by the church members as well as a pork and lamb kebob dinner treated by Arthur Zakharyantz. Children activities were organized by the Sunday School.

Great Lent begins on Monday, February 12th.

MIDIAN DAY OF LENT
MICHINK

Wednesday, March 6, 2024, is the median day of Lent (Meechink). It is the 24th day of Lent and it falls on the Wednesday of the fourth week of Lent, ending the first half of our spiritual journey. Although it does not have any specific religious significance, this mid-point day has been traditionally marked as a special day and occasion for fellowship and friendship by sharing a Lenten meal and encouraging each other to continue the Lenten spiritual journey.

In observance of the Median Day of Lent, we will have a vegan potluck luncheon on Sunday, March 10 (Sunday closest to the Midian Day of Lent),   followed by a presentation by Rev. Fr. Elijah Meuller. He will speak on “Lent as a time of stillnes: Coming to our true senses through prayer and fasting”.

We invite everyone to attend. More information can be found at the link below.
